lessons

My kids are always teaching me things

It is a fact that I learn way more from them than they will ever learn from me. That is....I learn if I pay attention.

I really think that kids have it all figured out....and as we grow up, we just learn to make things complicated. What do grown-ups know anyway??

Take this morning for instance. It snowed. Cooper and Tanner were just waking up as we had to run out the door, so I left them in their pajamas, wrapped them in a blanket and threw them in the car to get the boys to school on time.

They were so excited it was snowing! They oohhhed and aaahhhed the whole way to Amy's.

As soon as I opened the door and released them, Tanner jumps out of the car and in nothing but his pj's and little bare feet, he starts running around in the snow and exclaiming "IT TICKLES! IT TICKLES!"

The look on his face was priceless. He was having the time of his life.

He was LIVING in the moment.

He didn't care that he didn't have shoes on....(that was the best part for him) or a coat, or even clothes. He wasn't thinking that he was going to catch pneumonia or break his neck by slipping on the wet cement. No, that is what I was thinking.....HE was living it up over something so simple as putting his bare toes in snow and basking in the feeling. And I let him. And you know what? It didn't hurt a thing!

Now, was this some profound lesson I have never heard before....this living in the moment?

No.

But Tanner reminded me in that instant that life doesn't have to be so serious all the time.

Today I remembered it's ok to lighten up....once in a while.

When was the last time I wore a look of pure bliss on my face?

With nothing holding me back...

I think it's been a while.
